Grothman Announces Hearing on Making Oral Chemotherapy More Affordable for Americans

WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services Chairman Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) today announced a hearing titled “Unequal Treatment: Addressing the Drivers of Unaffordability for Oral Chemotherapy.” During the hearing, members will examine the factors that have led to widespread out-of-pocket cost disparities between oral and intravenous chemotherapy and explore potential solutions.

“Americans suffering from oral cancers deserve a fighting chance and should be able to obtain lifesaving medication without going into debt. Disparities in the way insurance companies and PBMs control and affect the prices of oral chemotherapy medications has caused them to be unaffordable for many.  This hearing will investigate the practices that raise the price of medications and examine the government’s procedural hurdles that create barriers to care. I look forward to hearing from witnesses on how Congress can alleviate this issue and make these medications affordable again,” said Subcommittee Chairman Grothman.
